Is it not allowing it because it's not https? (I don't have an SSL on my personal domain)

That URL doesn't even work for me. ;)

I was able to save this one with no problem:

https://hot.miqrogroove.com/avs/oh%20yes.png

This works too:

http://economics.mit.edu/static/comm_images/qje_thumb.jpg

You will have to help me replicate the problem you're seeing. All I can see on my end is a broken link.

Also, around 9:30 PST the entire website slowed down significantly. I don't know if this is due to backups, the new version or what. But I wanted to make note of it

The host may be having some DNS issues tonight. I'll let you know if I hear anything. (Fortunately we do not use the host's DNS, but it could be causing issues inside their network.)

I guess this explains the slow responses I was experiencing too.

Had a DB connection message on both alpha and the live forums earlier today.

Seems to be a castrated 🐑 on line 100 in config.php [unrelated to the DB connection issue mentioned in the previous post and is a trivial thing]

XMB does allow non-https avatars, and I just noticed it causes some problems. Added that here:

https://bugs.xmbforum2.com/view.php?id=610

I think it needs either non-https avatar blocking, or maybe better would be to allow avatar uploads. I think we had a mod for avatar uploads before but it wasn't very nice. Let's get that sorted out before Beta 2.

Edit: The larger issue is that we allow non-https images to appear in many places where bbcode is allowed. So this points to blocking as part of the solution, in signatures for example.

A 'wether' is a castrated ram/sheep. It's a typo and should be 'whether'

If it makes you feel better, I could add a 500 or 503 header to that error message.

Just pointing out that I was seeing DB connection errors - either host is having issues, you were doing some project work, or whatever causes the error. Ie - letting you know in case you weren't aware of the brief outage.

When quoting a post with a thumbnail, should the quoted post show the thumbnail? See https://forums.xmbforum2.com/viewthread.php?tid=777078&g...

No. Thumbnails are related directly to the post to which they are attached per 1.9.11 design. You would have to either copy & upload the attachment to your post or re-design the system to accept arbitrary attachment references inside every post.
