[New] Character limit in posts

volledig forum URL: http://www.lixxi.be/
XMB Versie: 1.9.11

Hi,

I have a problem with my board, i'm looking for the settings where i can edit the character limit for post.
As admin i would like to post a long text and when i do, i click on preview and i see nothing, so i think its because there is a character limit...?

How many characters are you trying to post as a "long text"?

You mentioned it doesn't show up in preview, does it show up when you actually post it?

I will not count them haha :lol: look attachment
But when i try here and preview its the same... i cant see it.
On my forum i even cant post it (i didnt try this here)
I was thinking to make a post with some rules but it seems to be to long.

Now i have another problem also...
When i post something the icon change to unread for all users but even after they viewed that post the icon remains unread?

This is not an issue due to any character limit.

I have tested the text you attached and it's the umlaut characters that cause the problem.

Do you have access to phpmyadmin?

If so, just check to see what type of character encoding is used by your tables.

Probably latin1 encoding or UTF-8. Can you check and post which it is?

I'll bet it's latin1, which is causing the issue, specifically the line where the character at the end of this which has an umlaut:

Elke vorm van reclame voor commerci

***** Potential fix:

Check the above first, then:

- set up another test xmb forum.
- when the database has been created, check the character type of the tables
- if it's latin1, change it to utf-8
- create posts, forum areas etc with the special characters.
- if you verify that special characters work with utf-8, then:

Make a complete backup copy of your actual live database in case anything goes wrong. Run the following on the live forum DB and tables:

Run the following, replacing databasename with your actual DB name and tablename for each xmb table name.
- ALTER DATABASE databasename CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci;
- ALTER TABLE tablename CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci;

Ok, when i try to post 500X a =aaaaaaaa....
It will post this :)
I tried the utf-8 but still no luck. Even when i change the text to "Elke vorm van reclame voor commerci" without the special character "e" it will not post so i geuss there will be another special character. But now i know where to look and try to find a solution :D
So thanks for the info!

Do you know an answer on my other question?

Probably your Internet browser cached the data.

Could be cache data on the forum itself then. I recall seeing some cache code, but off hand I have no idea if it affects the icon read images.
