I'm writing today to tell everyone about an important change that will be coming in the next version of XMB. This is a very early notice because I
don't like to hide surprises in the release notes!
Starting in version 1.9.11, XMB will have a new translation system.
One of the big changes you need to know about is that there will be a new storage location. XMB will use the MySQL database instead of PHP files to
store translation information. XMB will not detect new files if you put them in the /lang/ folder!
But everything is okay!
We are keeping the same file format so that you can
import and export .lang.php files very easily.
Translations will be installed by going to your board's Administration Panel and using a new "Translations" area to select and upload files.
Here are some details:
XMB will be able to send email notifications in each recipient's language instead of always using the
sender's language!
PHP will stay as the primary translation format, but the syntax will be more strict.
We are updating all 23 translations of XMB. They will be stable
and released with this version even if some are incomplete.
All Administrators will be able to install and edit translations through the Administration Panel.
Super Administrators will be able to use .sql files as a secondary translation format.
Manual editing of $lang keys wont be a requirement for new hacks that use the translation API.
