Welcome to a fresh section just about 1.9.12.

It's all fair game:

Just don't bring up your crazy problems with other versions you'll never upgrade.

try a reply without attaching files

Seems to be an issue when replying and attaching files.

If you try again, the files seem to be already in the post as [ file]nnnn[ /file] and then it works

https://forums.xmbforum2.com/faq.php?page=usermaint#1
section 'How do I add a signature?' - refers to html

https://forums.xmbforum2.com/faq.php?page=messages
section 'What is BB code?' - should youtube be added?
section 'What are smilies?' - someone perhaps might at some stage like to do a hack/mod to include unicode blocks? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emoji#Unicode_blocks

Welp. Apparently the PHP round() function doesn't return an integer. Who knew! Thank you for testing.

The new file is here: attach.inc.php HEAD version

The tracking is here: https://bugs.xmbforum2.com/view.php?id=596

Nice! 🙋‍♂️

Should the smilie section in the FAQs be updated with a simple statement saying Emoji are supported?

lottos - 9-18-2020 at 10:23 PM

Device force logout is great!

Disappointed:
- that I haven't been able to use the Quarantine panel queues yet!!

Are you xmb3r on the alpha site? I could set you up as admin to play around there.

Smilies and emojis are definitely two different things. I doubt this needs to communicated though. Just use your favorite emoji keyboard.

Yes, that's me.

Gee, those large images in this topic are annoying. Be good if they resized to not blow out the width of the forum. 🤣

miqrogroove - 9-18-2020 at 11:03 PM

To educate on the thumbnails issue (these were missing due to earlier bugs)

If a thumbnail ever fails to show up, there are three ways to fix it:

1. Upload the image again.

2. On the post edit screen, rename the file.

3. Search for the problem image in cp2.php?action=attachments and then click "Regenerate Thumbnail"

I will use #3 in the meantime.

When trying to username change. I've already messaged you about this, but since it's an issue as well, documenting here.

It's not throwing any errors, and the footer is completely missing.

Fixed. Thank god for name change though

miqrogroove - 9-19-2020 at 04:25 PM

Got it. Was a typo. ;)

anendeth - 9-19-2020 at 04:36 PM

For profiles, remove AIM and replace with Discord? I don't know anyone who uses AIM anymore?

anendeth - 9-19-2020 at 04:46 PM

Tried adding an Avatar from my personal domain name. When adding it, it says that the file is a valid image. However after saving, it doesn't save it. Instead wipes it as if I didn't put anything in there. However using an imgur link does work (as I now have one).

miqrogroove - 9-19-2020 at 05:23 PM

What's the image URL for the one that didn't work?

anendeth - 9-19-2020 at 05:42 PM

http://websitename.net/baby%20icon.png

Is it not allowing it because it's not https? (I don't have an SSL on my personal domain)

miqrogroove - 9-19-2020 at 08:10 PM

That URL doesn't even work for me. ;)

I was able to save this one with no problem:

https://hot.miqrogroove.com/avs/oh%20yes.png

This works too:

http://economics.mit.edu/static/comm_images/qje_thumb.jpg

You will have to help me replicate the problem you're seeing. All I can see on my end is a broken link.

xmb3r - 9-20-2020 at 01:00 AM

general member reply test. works.

That isn't actually my URL :P I'll PM you the actual link :P

anendeth - 9-20-2020 at 04:36 AM

Also, around 9:30 PST the entire website slowed down significantly. I don't know if this is due to backups, the new version or what. But I wanted to make note of it

miqrogroove - 9-20-2020 at 04:49 AM

The host may be having some DNS issues tonight. I'll let you know if I hear anything. (Fortunately we do not use the host's DNS, but it could be causing issues inside their network.)

miqrogroove - 9-20-2020 at 04:56 AM

I guess this explains the slow responses I was experiencing too.

Had a DB connection message on both alpha and the live forums earlier today.

lottos - 9-20-2020 at 10:14 AM

Seems to be a castrated 🐑 on line 100 in config.php [unrelated to the DB connection issue mentioned in the previous post and is a trivial thing]

XMB does allow non-https avatars, and I just noticed it causes some problems. Added that here:

https://bugs.xmbforum2.com/view.php?id=610

I think it needs either non-https avatar blocking, or maybe better would be to allow avatar uploads. I think we had a mod for avatar uploads before but it wasn't very nice. Let's get that sorted out before Beta 2.

Edit: The larger issue is that we allow non-https images to appear in many places where bbcode is allowed. So this points to blocking as part of the solution, in signatures for example.

A 'wether' is a castrated ram/sheep. It's a typo and should be 'whether'

miqrogroove - 9-20-2020 at 10:08 PM

If it makes you feel better, I could add a 500 or 503 header to that error message.

Just pointing out that I was seeing DB connection errors - either host is having issues, you were doing some project work, or whatever causes the error. Ie - letting you know in case you weren't aware of the brief outage.

lottos - 9-21-2020 at 12:04 AM

When quoting a post with a thumbnail, should the quoted post show the thumbnail? See https://forums.xmbforum2.com/viewthread.php?tid=777078&g...

miqrogroove - 9-21-2020 at 12:07 AM

No. Thumbnails are related directly to the post to which they are attached per 1.9.11 design. You would have to either copy & upload the attachment to your post or re-design the system to accept arbitrary attachment references inside every post.
